CHARACTERS

IDENTIFICATION
A. Infrared absorption spectrophotometry.
B. It gives reaction of chlorides.
TESTS
Solution S: Dissolve 0.40 g in carbon dioxide-free water and dilute to 20.0 mL with the same solvent.
Appearance of solution: Solution S is clear and not more intensely coloured than reference solution.
Acidity and alkalinity: To 10 mL of solution S, add 0.05 mL of methyl red solution. Not more than 0.2 mL of 0.02 M sodium hydroxide or 0.02 M ;hydrochloric acid is required to change the colour of the indicator.
Specific optical rotation: -187 to -195 (anhydrous substance). Dissolve 0.40 g in water and dilute to 20.0 mL with the same solvent.
Related substances: To pass the test by Liquid chromatography.
Ethanol: Maximum 3.0 per cent.
Water: Maximum 10.0 per cent, determined on 0.200 g.
Sulfated ash: Maximum 0.1 per cent, determined on 1.0 g.
